Through our unique UPLIFT program, Discovery Day Treatment provides youth in need the help and support they deserve.

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES WE ADDRESS

Today’s youth are facing unprecedented mental health challenges. Globally, depression is one of the leading causes of illness and disability among adolescents. The CDC reported that more than 1 in 3 high school students had experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness in 2019, a 40% increase since 2009. Also, in 2019 approximately 1 in 6 youth reported making a suicide plan in the past year, a 44% increase since 2009. Discovery Day Treatment clinicians are trained and licensed psychotherapists who specialize in helping youth struggling with mental health challenges including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety including PTSD, ADHD, and poor family attachment. At Discovery Day Treatment we recognize that adolescence is a crucial period for developing and maintaining social and emotional habits important for mental well-being.

PREMIER CLINICAL DAY TREATMENT PROGRAM

Operating within the historic Ivy Tower in downtown Provo, Discovery Day Treatment is Utah’s Premier Life-Skills Institute For Teens (UPLIFT). Our UPLIFT PROGRAM offers students individual, family, and group psychotherapy sessions based on individualized treatment plans developed from assessment and consultation in a day treatment setting with fully accredited academic support. All our therapy sessions are also run by fully- licensed mental health and recreation therapists.

PREMIER OUTPATIENT SERVICES

In addition to the day treatment program offered Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Discovery Day Treatment provides individual, family, neurofeedback, and psychiatric services during afternoon and evening hours on an outpatient basis. Our team of licensed therapists offers psychotherapy for mental health and addictive issues. Psychiatric services and medication management are also offered by our nurse practitioner, Karl Tucker, who specializes in teens but also works with adults throughout Utah Valley.

Frequently Asked Questions

Day treatment is an option for teens with mental health and/or behavioral issues who do not necessarily need 24-hour supervision in a clinical or hospital setting, but still need more support than what they receive at home or school alone. Day treatment offers a structured therapeutic environment with academic support Monday through Friday, but still allows your teen to be home each night. The cost is often greatly reduced by accessing the family’s health insurance benefit.

Intensive outpatient therapy is available to teens who need more than traditional outpatient therapy provides, but may have already completed several weeks in a partial hospitalization setting. Individual and group therapy is available, and most patients commit to 3 hours of mental health or substance abuse treatment, 3-5 days each week.

Experienced therapists, engaging therapeutic relationships, facilities, meals and transportation-by-request all add to the treatment experience for a teen. We have breakfast and lunch served each day from our restaurant-style kitchen, and we don’t provide just “group therapy,” but expressive art therapies, neurofeedback and also sandtray therapy that helps appeal to the hesitant student. Other extras such as certified teachers and a fully accredited 7-12 education aren’t offered in most typical day treatment settings, but all combine to increase the chances of success for our students and simplify the possible stresses of the experience for the family.

We are a fully accredited school so students can still earn academic credits while attending day treatment. At Discovery Day, your teen will have an individualized academic plan based on their needs, with most students doing two courses at a time.

The cost of day treatment varies depending on individual needs. If you have private health insurance it will usually cover most of the cost!
